How do I get married at Vineyard Columbus?

Only a decision to follow Christ will have greater impact on your life than your decision to get married. This is why we take marriage very seriously at Vineyard Columbus. Our desire is to see every couple we marry have a satisfying, life-long relationship that can weather the storms of life. The key to a successful marriage is good preparation before the wedding day. We have developed a pre-marital program that is designed to help couples deepen and strengthen their relationship as well as identify and work through potential problems. Although we are not able to marry every couple who comes to us, we look at each couple individually and want to help prepare them in every way we can. If you are interested in getting married at Vineyard Columbus, here are a few things you should know about.

To be married at Vineyard Church of Columbus at least one person must be a member.
Due to the size of our congregation and the number of activities taking place each week in the church building, we have limited weddings to only couples where at least one of the couple is a member of Vineyard. To become a member, you attend our two-part Newcomers' Class and sign our membership covenant. (Two aspects of membership at Vineyard Church of Columbus that are pertinent to getting married are the agreement to abstain from sexual activity outside of marriage and not to co-habit (live under the same roof as) your future spouse.) This class is scheduled five times a year.

Couples must have dated for at least a year
Personal knowledge of each other is an important key to a successful marriage, and to get that knowledge takes time. This is why we ask that couples who want to get married have been dating and/or engaged for at least a year. You could wed on the one-year anniversary of your first date! Our program requires couples to have a formal engagement period of no less than six months so that they can complete the Heart2Heart Premarital program.

Couples who plan to marry with a six-to-twelve month window to work in are ready to participate in our premarital program.
Here at Vineyard we have developed a thoughtful program for preparing couples for a life-long marriage commitment to each other:
  • Schedule a premarital appointment with Marriage & Family to begin the process of getting married at Vineyard Columbus.
  • Take inventories that will be used as tools to highlight relational strengths and growth areas.
  • Attend the How2Become1 Premarital Classes and complete homework associated with classes held at the church.
  • Meet with a trained Coach Couple 4-6 times before marriage and 1-2 times after the wedding to discuss information gathered from inventories as well as pertinent aspects unique to your lives. The focus of these meetings is to address growth areas by inviting God and biblical principals into your life as a couple.
  • Commit to one of the church's many small groups for fellowship and discipleship.
  • Meet three times with the pastor chosen to officiate at the wedding.
  • Once the premarital screening is completed, couples work with our Wedding Administrator to select their wedding date and choose a pastor.
  • After a date has been secured, the Wedding Administrator will help plan your wedding ceremony and possible reception here at the church. The Wedding Administrator has experience planning events at the church and is here to help coordinate all the details of doing a wedding in our facility.
We believe that successful, satisfying marriages are still possible despite the current state of marriage in America. If you are engaged and would like to be married here at Vineyard, please call Marriage and Family Life at 614-259-5390 to set up an initial appointment.
